intro: Rio Grande do Sul, 1971, “Grendene” brand birthdate. That time modest factory has become Brazil’s largest shoes manufacturer today, composed by more than 30 brands. “Rider” – a well-known sandals line – is one of them. For this project, which would involve “play” re-design icon (created by a design office which has been facing legal problems due to the unauthorized use of image), the challenge was keeping “play” features, since the icon has a strong concept and as it pleases everyone. After several attempts, the “play” icon was embedded in the letter “R” in Rider, creating a new icon, a sort of stylized eagle. As the icon reminds the viewer of an eagle, it adds movement and energy to it and reminds the viewer of freedom.
